  • Ali Asghar
    Senior Associate - Power, Energy storage and Electric Vehicles, Bloomberg New Energy Finance

    Ali Asghar covers the changing power, energy storage and advanced transportation markets in Australia. Ali joined Bloomberg in 2016 after several years of experience working as an energy analyst in the Middle East at Saudi Aramco, where he was part of a team that developed Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy strategy. Ali holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering.

  • Dr Tim Cooper
    Co-Founder and Head of Algorithms, SkedGo

    Timothy greatest passion is Mobility as a Service (MaaS).  He is co-founder of Skedgo Pty Ltd, a Sydney-based startup developing MaaS software. 

    The MaaS vision is that there will be one or more apps which aggregate all forms of personal transport, one app which works in all cities which integrates information, booking and payments, and which suggests trip chains combining services as distinct as podless bikes, taxi-buses, long walks, as well as the more usual public transport and ride-sourcing.  Tim’s specific role in Skedgo is Head of Algorithms.

    He also founded SmartsGroup Pty Ltd with 2 partners in 1996.  The SMARTS software is provided to stock exchanges – to look for market manipulation, insider trading, tax evasion, money laundering etc..  1 in 4 stock exchange trades that happen in the world is monitored by SMARTS.   Tim remained with SmartsGroup until SmartsGroup was sold to Nasdaq in Aug 2010, by then a company of 120 employees.   Tim was chief software architect of SmartsGroup and he developed the proprietary 'transaction log database' technology pioneered by SMARTS.

    In 2005, while still at SmartsGroup, Tim established another software company:  Edval Timetables  (  Edval Timetables provides software and consulting services to high schools for timetable construction and various aspects of school administration.  Edval currently employs 43 Australians.
    Tim received his PhD in Computer Science from Sydney University in 1996; his topic was ‘Integrated Persistent Programming Environments’.

    He has worked in many fields at Suncorp across Strategy, Innovation and Underwriting roles, and is uniquely qualified to talk about emerging vehicle technology.

    Kevin Orr has 10 years of experience in the corporate world as a Business Intelligence Manager for a $10B SuperFund. Kevin has a background and degree qualifications in GIS and Mathematics, with strong analytics experience.

    He has a strong technical background coupled with front-line business experience developing and launching a start-up from scratch. To sum it up in one-line Kevin is: "A self-confessed tech nerd who can translate the jargon into plain English". Evident in his chosen line of work, has a passion for solving big problems through innovation and technology.

  • Matt Tett
    Managing Director, Enex TestLab

    Matt heads Enex TestLab (, an independent ISO17025 accredited testing laboratory with over 28 years history, ISO 9001 certification and a university heritage. He is well-known globally across industry and government as a highly technical straight shooter, effectively translating complex technology to the lay-person. His organisation’s objective is using science to keep tech vendors honest by rigorously testing their product claims and ensuring consumer requirements are met.

    Matt is the chair of IoT Alliance Australia (IoTAA) Work Stream 5 – Cyber Security and Network Resilience. He also serves on the Communications Alliance Cyber Security Reference Panel (CSRP), the Internet Australia Cyber Security SIG, and is a member of the research advisory committee for the Internet Commerce Security Laboratory at Federation University.

    Matt has a deep technical background in network and security systems and he holds the following security certifications in good standing for 10+ years: CISSP, CISM, CSEPS and CISA. He holds Government and Police Contractor security clearances.
